Ribank, part of the Credit Agricole Group financial services group, have decided to go racing this coming season as the new sponsor of the Mazda MAX5 Cup, now renamed the 'Ribank MAX5 Mazda Cup. Ribank and Mazda Motor Netherlands have teamed up for a year deal, with a further extension option 2013. All cars in the championship will be provided with new manifestations of the highly visible windscreen sun visor as well as new decals for both doors. Mazda Motor Netherlands has also appointed the sports management agency RBSM & Ron Boon as the new cup coordinator as well as signing contracts with two new sub-sponsors, Mazda E-SHOP and Toyo Tires. Also new to the start of the 2012 season is Autovisie team, made up of three drivers, all ready to compete in this increasingly competitive championship which is now gaining international media space and participants.

The Ribank MAX5 Mazda Cup has made explosive growth. In the 2008 season, there were three newly built cars competing in the inaugural season around the various circuits. A year later there were seven. In 2010 season 16 cars competed for the highest honours and last year the field saw an impressive 24 cars & drivers. For the upcoming season the organisation expects at least 30 cars at the start, boasting drivers from Holland, Germany, France & England.

"We are extremely pleased that a prestigious organisation such as Ribank now have their name associated with the Mazda Cup MAX5" says Martijn ten Brink, General Manager of the importer of Mazda in the Netherlands, Mazda Motor Netherlands in Waddinxveen. "It is also great to see how the enthusiasm for this very affordable racing class grows. Anyone that is tired of karting and how has obtained a racing license can easily make that step into the MAX5 series. For Eur. 3,000 - Eur. 5,000, a competitor can race at a competitive level throughout the whole of the racing season. Furthermore with the initial purchase and conversion of the car, being less than Eur. 10,000 it is at the cutting edge of budget motor sport. With the financial support of our new sub-sponsor Ribank, we anticipate the championship exhibiting even more style, status and quality".

"The Mazda was a logical choice" added Richard Groenendaal, Partner Sales Manager at Credit Agricole Consumer Finance Netherlands BV. "Ribank has traditionally had a strong position in the automotive channels. MAX5 Cup is a great opportunity to further cement our partnership with Mazda".

After years of phenomenal effort, time and nurturing of the Mazda Cup MAX5 Cup, it was at the annual award ceremony on the 3 March 2012 that the Max5 Cup family said an official celebratory thank you and goodbye to previous cup coordinator Mick Hoogwerf. In order to fill Mick's shoes and address the ever growing role of the coordination team (in line with the increasing size of the championship) Mazda has provided via means of a contract with RBSM in The Hague, the services of Veteran Ron Boon. Ron will act as the upcoming season of cup coordinator of the Ribank Mazda MAX5 Cup in tandem with his positions as manager of League Circuit Park Zandvoort and the Radical Benelux Cup 2012 cup coordinator.

Mazda also has new contracts with two sub sponsors. Elgersma BV in Vianen will be the Mazda E-SHOP MAX5 Championship financial support along with Toyo Tires Benelux BV, which was already on boards as a sub sponsor but who's financial support this year has significantly expanded. The Mazda dealers E-SHOP fuses the convenience of dealer accessories and supplies, on-line ordering and merchandising products for the office and in the workplace into one central ones stop shop.

Autovisie, available in multiple formats as an automotive multimedia platform, magazine, newspapers, websites and tablet, is this season participating with a car in the championship. Three journalists from the editorial division make up the team that will participate in all races and they will be sharing their experiences through various media channels throughout 2012.

The race calendar of the Mazda Ribank MAX5 Cup this season consists of 9 events, containing a total of 16 races, over three different circuits. The most spectacular part of the annual participation is the DPP event at Circuit Park Zandvoort, this season Pinksterraces on May 28

In England the Mazda MX-5 racing championship has been particularly popular, as in the United States of America, where Mazda's largest motor sports sponsorship lies. They are also the main sponsor of the famous Laguna Seca race track. The Championships provide the perfect combination of sporty driving at extremely affordable prices. This is the concept that is MAX5 Racing.

In the increasingly popular championship in the Netherlands it is only the first generation (NA 1990-1993) Mazda MX-5, 1.6 litre 116 hp (135 Nm) B6 engine and five-speed manual transmission that is eligible under the tight regulations. The minimum weight including driver is 960 kg. All in all, a very affordable racing class where both the novice driver and the experienced racer can achieve fun simultaneously.
